Doors Open Day

Edinburgh Doors Open Days are coming soon; September 23rd and 24th. The brochure can be donwloaded from the Cockburn Association website at

In Inverleith we have St James' chirch at Goldenacre, the Botanics Cottage and the Herbarium in the Botanic Gardens. Nearby in Stockbridge there are several sites, including St. Vincent's Chapel in St Stephen's Street, St. Bernard's Well and the new Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine building at the Western General Hospital in Crewe Road.

Garden works: 6 Howard Place

6 Howard Place - Works to rear garden   


The Society has been alerted to the fact that some significant works have been carried out in the rear garden of 6 Howard Place without any application for planning permission having been submitted or approved. The Society has contacted the planning enforcement team in the Edinburgh City Council Planning Department who have undertaken to investigate and provide a response within the next four weeks. Many householders may be unaware that, where a property is located within a conservation area, the legal position is that works of this nature require specific approval by the planning authority.
