Canonmills Bridge Development

Efforts are continuing to prevent the deeply unpopular development scheme at Canonmills Bridge from taking place.

The Society is continuing to work with the local campaign group Save 1-6 Canonmills Bridge. We have recently been in contact with all the local councillors in the three wards most directly affected by the proposals – Leith Walk; City Centre and Inverleith – to ask them to support action which would have the effect of nullifying the planning permission for the scheme.

25 Kinnear Road

The Society has submitted an objection to a proposal for demolition of the existing house at 25 Kinnear Road and redevelopment of the site with construction of a block of 16 flats.

The Society objected on the grounds that the proposals would involve a significant over-development of the site with negative impacts on the open space character of its surroundings and on the amenity of adjoining properties.

Canonmills Bridge - Appeal Decision

The Scottish Government Enquiry Reporter has now issued her decision on the appeal submitted by Glovart Holdings and has granted consent for demolition of the buildings occupied by “Earthy” at Canonmills.

Developers Appeal Canonmills Bridge Decision

Developers appeal Council decision to refuse demolition of Canonmills Bridge buildings

The developers seeking to replace the existing buildings at 1-6 Canonmills (the building occupied by “Earthy”) and to replace it with a four storey block of flats with three houses at the rear, have now submitted an appeal against the Council’s decision refusing demolition consent.
